2024 End-of-Year Trip: Impressions of Kumamoto City and Aso
At the end of this year, three friends and I decided to visit Kumamoto City and Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture. It was our first time visiting Kumamoto, and we were completely captivated by its charm.
First, when we arrived in Kumamoto City, we were amazed by the seamless blend of history and modernity in the cityscape. The grandeur of Kumamoto Castle was breathtaking, and as we wandered through its historic stone walls and gardens, time seemed to fly by. At Sakura no Baba Josaien, we enjoyed local cuisine made from regional ingredients, savoring specialties like horse sashimi and karashi renkon. Sharing these dishes and exchanging our thoughts made the experience even more special.
The next day, we headed to the Aso region. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we couldn’t climb Mount Aso. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Aso. We drove to Kusasenrigahama, where we were mesmerized by the vast green grasslands and the blue sky. Walking leisurely in this natural setting allowed us to fully appreciate the grandeur of Aso.
That night, we stayed at a resort hotel with hot springs nestled in the mountains of Aso. The hotel, situated in a quiet mountainous area, greeted us with a starry sky as we arrived in the evening. The next morning, soaking in the hot springs and gazing at the majestic mountains of Aso was truly a picturesque experience. The combination of the hot spring steam and the mountain views provided the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation.
On our final day, we strolled through the shopping streets of Kumamoto City, searching for local specialties and souvenirs. Interacting with the local people in the shopping area was one of the highlights of the trip, especially the warmth and friendliness of the residents.
Our trip through Kumamoto City and Aso offered a wonderful experience where we could fully enjoy the historical and modern attractions, as well as the natural beauty of the region. The journey with my friends left a particularly strong impression, making this trip a memorable way to close out 2024 and providing us with the energy to face the coming year.
